Welcome to the Chapel Hill Dojo of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA), a non-profit organization dedicated since 1955 to teaching Karate in the United States. We welcome new students of any age and level at any time of the year.
Karate is a weaponless means of self defense. The object of true karate practice is the perfection of oneself through the perfection of the art. A student’s technical progress goes hand in hand with gaining physical strength and mental focus.
Originally this was the most important thing about martial arts – to reach a higher level, to become a strong human being. This kind of strength doesn’t come from big muscles. It comes from being strict with yourself. That is the ideal of martial arts. —Tsutomu Ohshima
Our practices are held in the Lower School Gymnasium of the Duke School three times a week on Monday & Wednesday evenings, as well as Saturday mornings. Contact us if you are interested in learning more, checking us out, or joining our dojo.
